According to the Express, the Hammers could be close to securing the signature of AS Roma’s Mattia Destro, and in further news on the speculation, the Italy international’s rumoured imminent arrival at Upton Park could be as a result of the Red Devils’ interest in the Irons forward [via the Daily Mail].

The Daily Mail state that Louis van Gaal is keen on Sakho – who is valued at £15m, according to the English newspaper – this summer, and the Dutchman’s interest may have forced West Ham into searching for a potential replacement.

United are heading into the new campaign short on forwards, having lost Radamel Falcao at the end of his loan deal. Robin van Persie is also close to the exit door, with Fenerbahce confirming on Thursday that they have begun talks to sign the Dutchman [BBC].

The Senegal international enjoyed a fine debut campaign in the Premier League – scoring 12 goals in 23 appearances under Sam Allardyce – but despite impressing in east London, the forward may not have been expecting to catch the eye of van Gaal.

Meanwhile, Destro’s future at the Stadio Olimpico is far from certain after the 24-year-old spent the second-half of last season on loan at AC Milan – netting three goals in 15 appearances – and he is expected to make a decision on his future at the end of this week, the Express report.
