Manchester United are plotting a move to sign Fiorentina defender and former Manchester City man Stefan Savic this summer, according to Spanish source AS.

The 24-year-old is also wanted by Atletico Madrid in this transfer window, with additional reports from the Daily Express suggesting Fiorentina value him at around £15m and that Arsenal and Liverpool have also shown some interest in the player in recent times.

Savic notably flopped in his single season at Manchester City, though he did manage to pick up a Premier League winners’ medal as the team won the title at the expense of United in 2011/12.

However, it is in Serie A that the Montenegro international’s career has really taken off, with the player earning a reputation for being an intelligent marker and tough tackler.

United certainly look in need of defensive additions this summer after only managing to finish fourth in the league last season, with youngsters like Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair playing a surprisingly high number of games in the first-team.

Louis van Gaal could be concerned by the lack of depth in that position, with other senior players like Phil Jones and Jonny Evans not exactly at their best either throughout the campaign.

Savic looks like an upgrade and seems available for a decent price if reports are to be believed, though it is not yet clear how advanced Atletico’s talks are to sign the ex-City ace.
