It’s not the one you’re thinking of! Dundee United have completed a deal for Rodney Sneijder, reports the talkSPORT.

The 24-year-old is the brother of the far more well known Wesley, who has been linked to Manchester United in the past. The younger sibling has had a rather less illustrious career, playing for FC Utrecht, RKC Waalwijk, and Almere City instead of Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Galatasaray after also coming through the ranks at Ajax.

However, the midfielder impressed enough during Dundee’s pre-season training in Holland to win a contract, and manager Jackie McNamara seems happy to have signed the former Netherlands Under 19s ace.

“I am very happy to sign Rodney,” said the boss, “He showed great desire and application whilst training with us during pre season and he will add great quality to our midfield.

“He has a fabulous pedigree and you can see his talent. He will become a fans’ favourite at Tannadice and this signing is a real coup for the club. I look forward to working with Rodney and seeing him in our team this coming campaign.”

The player himself is also eager to make his mark in Scottish football. The Tangerines finished fifth in the SPL last season, and will be hoping to push on and get in to contention for the Europa League qualification places next time round.

“I enjoyed my time with the squad over in the Netherlands,” said Sneijder, “And I know from speaking to the manager where he believes this team can go. This is an excellent opportunity for me to develop and progress as a player.

“This is the right time for me to explore Scottish football and I look forward to meeting my new team mates and the Dundee United fans. I want to help the club achieve success this season.”
