Tottenham star hopes to complete Man United transfer; £20.9m bid readied

Manchester United are readying a bid for Tottenham Hotspur keeper Hugo Lloris as a replacement for David de Gea, according to L’Equipe (via Metro).

Louis van Gaal is understood to be keen to complete the sale of De Gea to Real Madrid (AS via The Guardian), with the Dutchman mindful that his Old Trafford side could lose the Spanish keeper on a free transfer next summer, as the 24-year-old custodian’s contract set to expire in 12 months’ time.

Lloris has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers in recent seasons, but has seen his North London side fail to secure a Champions League berth for the coming campaign.

The Metro claim that Man United would offer £20.9m for Lloris, an increase on the £12m Spurs paid for the player back in 2012 (via The Daily Mail), and this would hand van Gaal a strong alternative to De Gea.

Louis van Gaal has already signed Argentine international Sergio Romero to boost his options between the sticks, the free agent becoming Man United’s fifth signing of the summer, hot on the heels of the captures of Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
