Manchester United player ratings after Spurs game.
Our Manchester United player ratings after today’s Tottenham result, with a strong debut from summer signing Morgan Schneiderlin, but not the best display from Wayne Rooney up front…
GK: Sergio Romero
Some suspect moments, but Sergio Romero will be pleased to keep a clean sheet on his first Premier League appearance, helping his new club to a win over Spurs, particularly with some key stops late on as the visitors chased the game. 6.5/10.
DR: Matteo Darmian
Another debutant for United, Matteo Darmian had a solid first game for the Red Devils, getting forward to good effect and providing that width from the back that the side sometimes lacked last season. 7/10.
DL: Luke Shaw
Still not looking as good as he should, Luke Shaw had some decent moments for United, but wasn’t a major figure in this victory. 6/10.

DC: Chris Smalling
Important in breaking up Tottenham’s attacks, Chris Smalling had a good game at the back for United in a tight match. 7/10.
DC: Daley Blind
A fine performance for his first game as a centre-back, Daley Blind looks like he could be a useful option in this new role for 2015/16. 7/10.
MC: Michael Carrick
Showing his importance to United, Michael Carrick started this match and gave a good account for himself as he looks to keep his place in the team against more competition this term. 7.5/10.
MC: Morgan Schneiderlin
A good debut, Morgan Schneiderlin was strong in the tackle and kept the ball moving well for United in his first game for the club, showing he’ll be a top class signing. 7.5/10.
AMR: Memphis Depay
Not the most effective debut, Memphis Depay moved around in different areas of the pitch and should look better once he has a more settled role in the side. 6.5/10.
AML: Ashley Young
Showing he can still be a key performer for United, Ashley Young was one of the team’s most lively attackers, showing a good turn of pace and providing some width to an otherwise static performance. 7/10.
AMC: Juan Mata
Surrounded by players and not able to string his usual passes together, Juan Mata was a little quiet in this match and will need to improve to keep his place. 6.5/10.
FC: Wayne Rooney
Had a hand in the winning goal, but Wayne Rooney mainly showed that he cannot be relied upon as United’s sole option up front this season with an ineffective performance. 6/10.
