5. United need to sign a ‘real’ striker

Dutch legend Ruud Gullit believes that Louis van Gaal must sign a centre-forward before the close of the summer window, as Rooney’s desire to drop deep will see him struggle in a lone attacking role.

“You can see the team does not have a proper striker. Wayne Rooney? He is not a real striker. Rooney wants to be involved in the play, but he cannot be the only man up front,” as quoted by London Evening Standard.

4. Adnan Januzaj in loan battle

Southampton and Borussia Dortmund are going head-to-head over securing the Belgium international on loan for the new season, according to the Daily Express.

Januzaj is desperate for regular first team action, and may be granted a temporary exit.

3. Southampton rule out winger’s sale

The Saints will resist any offers from United for winger Sadio Mane, insisting that he is crucial to the club’s future.

After reports that Pedro had agreed a move to Chelsea, it was revealed that the Red Devils had made an offer for Mane as an alternative to the Spaniard.

2. Red Devils turn to £56m Chelsea target

Reports in the Metro claim that United are considering meeting the €80million (£56m) for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, who has been a target for Chelsea throughout the summer window.

Could United be plotting revenge after the Pedro deal?

1. United to offer Thomas Muller £1m-a-month

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller is Louis van Gaal’s dreaming signing, and an exclusive from the Daily Star states that the club are prepared to offer the German a long-term deal worth £250,000 per-week to lure him to Manchester.

Starsport claim that Muller is keen on linking up with his former Bayern boss van Gaal and team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger, but the Bundesliga giants are reluctant to sell another superstar.

He may, therefore, have to hand in a transfer request.
