Deadline day: 5 Man Utd PANIC buys the Reds must avoid, including one-season wonder & overpriced Arsenal target

Five deadline day panic buys Man Utd might be tempted to try…

A look at five panic buys Manchester United could make on transfer deadline day, with the Red Devils looking desperate as they seek to solve their issues up front…

1) Anthony Martial (AS Monaco)

Linked with a shock £36m move to United, Monaco starlet Anthony Martial is undoubtedly a top young talent, though he remains unproven at this stage of his career and is certainly not worth that kind of money, nor is he likely to be the quick fix Louis van Gaal’s side needs up front.

2) Harry Kane (Tottenham)

Linked with a £45m move to Old Trafford earlier this summer, Tottenham striker Harry Kane is yet to show that he’s going to be anything but a one-season wonder after a slow start to the new campaign, and that would be money very badly spent.

3) Charlie Austin (Queens Park Rangers)

With odds slashed on Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin joining United on deadline day, this is another ill-advised signing, with the 26-year-old a decent goalscorer but probably not top four quality.

4) Saido Berahino (West Brom)

Another overrated player recently linked with United, West Brom striker Saido Berahino would be decent but little more as the Red Devils cry out for a world class attacker up top.

5) Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli)

Hugely overpriced at £69.1m, Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is certainly one of the better and more proven forwards in this list, but he would definitely represent a panic buy if United pay that price for him, as has been suggested they might at points this summer.
