Aston Villa boss Remi Garde confirms interest in Ashley Cole

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has confirmed that he could be interested in signing former Arsenal and Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole in the new year, according to the Daily Express.

The 34-year-old is currently being frozen out in the Italian capital, and could be open to a return to the Premier League before hanging up his boots, and Garde could hand him a lifeline as he looks to cover a problem position.

Villa paid £9million for highly-rated French under-21 international Jordan Amavi over the summer, and though he made a bright start to life in the West Midlands, he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury sustained last month.

That has left him with having to play Kieran Richardson, who the fans aren’t keen on, and may look to bring in Cole as a stopgap.

Cole is yet to play a single Serie A game for Roma this season, and is thought to be set to go up for sale in the new year.

And Garde has said on the speculation: “He has experience but he didn’t play for a while now. Every good player is interesting for me and Ashley is a good player.”
