Marcus Rashford delaying contract extension talks with Man United amid rival interest

After scoring a brace in each of his first two games up front, Man United forward Marcus Rashford has become a top re-signing priority at Old Trafford. Whether it’s true devotion to his craft or merely a sharp business mind, Rashford has been staying away from the negotiating table during the 2015-16 season after playing the role of hero in two vital games. It appears that he may be holding out for a big deal from a heavy-spending club.

According to the Metro, Manchester City have expressed interest in landing the 18-year-old forward. Meanwhile, Rashford has reportedly told the team that he is holding off on signing a new contract as he focuses on maintaining his spot as the starting forward.

Rashford replaced an injury Anthony Martial in the club’s Europa League match against FC Midtjylland and scored twice in a dominating win. He followed up that performance with two more goals against Arsenal several days later.

Upon Martial’s return, Louis van Gaal elected to keep Rashford up front rather than send him back to the bench.
