Chelsea interested in Borussia Dortmund captain as John Terry fill-in

It seems unlikely that anyone will ever be able to truly replace Chelsea legend John Terry as the number one centre-back on the team, but if Roman Abramovich and Antonio Conte want to line up someone to fill the void, Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels could be as good a candidate as anyone in Europe.

According to Sport Bild [per the Metro], Chelsea have inquired as to the availability of the Dortmund captain and starting centre-back. Hummels, who also starts for Germany and was part of their 2014 FIFA World Cup team, would undoubtedly fill the position held by the departing John Terry.

The 27-year-old defender is in his ninth season with Dortmund and has made over 290 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Terry has not been offered a new contract with the club and has declared that the 2015-16 season will be his last at Stamford Bridge and likely in England.

Per the source, Man United and Liverpool have also expressed interest in the German defender.
