Get ready for more cringeworthy Brendan Rodgers quotes if this Liverpool transfer goes ahead…

Swansea City will try to re-sign Joe Allen from Liverpool in the summer, which could set up a reunion with adoring manager Brendan Rodgers according to the Daily Mail.

Allen has struggled for regular first-team football at Anfield. He is approaching the last year of his contract and there are not understood to be plans for talks over a new deal.

The Swans remain huge fans of the 26-year-old and want to bring him back to the Liberty Stadium in the summer, although they might have to pay upwards of £10m to do so.

This potential transfer will become more likely if Swansea reappoint Rodgers at the end of the season. He is reportedly their preferred option to replace manager Francesco Guidolin.

Rodgers helped bring Allen along at Swansea and then made the midfielder one of his first signings for Liverpool in 2012, famously and comically describing him as ‘the Welsh Xavi’.

And this is not the only hilarious soundbite Rodgers has given us when speaking about his prodigal son. “Joe Allen is one of the most courageous players I’ve seen,” is a personal favourite.

Having the two back in Wales would be a major coup for Swansea after their disappointing season, but, for the rest of us, it is likely to mean more cringeworthy quotes from Brendan.
