Video: NYC FC 0-3 New York Red Bulls – Bradley Wright-Phillips nets twice to triple lead before half

The Red Bulls looked set to make it four in a row in the New York Derby thanks to some late first-half heroics by star striker Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Facing a hostile NYC FC crowd at the historic Yankee Stadium, the visiting Red Bulls took control early in the first half thanks to a goal by Dax McCarty. But after a slow start to his season, Bradley got his chance to shine and remind MLS why he’s one of the league’s best scoring threats.

A superb assist from winger Mike Grella following some fancy footwork allowed Bradley to stick his head out and smash the ball past Josh Saunders for the 2-0 lead.

But the Englishman outdid himself just a few minutes later, as an air ball bounced off the noggin of Aurelien Collin and into Bradley’s direction and the 31-year-old went airborne for a superb bicycle kick into the bottom right corner for the 3-0 lead.

Despite a better record, a more expensive roster and a World Cup winner managing their team, NYC FC just can’t seem to help but struggle against their Hudson River rivals.
