Sparkling Burnley midfielder could get second chance at Manchester United transfer

Steven Defour came very close to a move to Manchester United in 2009. As revealed in an interview with Sky Sports, the midfielder was on the verge of a move to Sir Alex Ferguson’s United team when a broken foot ruled him out for a crucial period. Ferguson wrote him a letter wishing him well in his recovery, but never returned with a bid.

Given Defour’s form through his first six games for Burnley however, you couldn’t rule out Manchester United casting their eye over the Belgian midfielder again. Since joining the Clarets, Defour has oozed class. He was the best player on the pitch against Arsenal last weekend, and the week before that grabbed two assists in a victory over Watford.

Still only 28 and with tons of Champions League and international experience, Defour would be a great signing for most teams in the Premier League. People were impressed that Burnley had managed to sign such a top player: they will be even more impressed if they can hold on to him.
