CSKA keeper has failed to keep clean sheet for 42 Champions League games

CSKA Moscow scored a late equaliser against Bayer Leverkusen to force a 1-1 draw in the Champions League at home in Russia.

The draw effectively ruled out CSKA’s hopes of booking a place in the next round and the face that Igor Akinfeev conceded rubbed further salt in the wounds as the goalkeeper has now failed to keep a clean sheet in his last 42 Champions League games.

Akinfeev has failed to keep a clean sheet since all the way back in November 2006 but it would be unfair to blame him for Kevin Volland’s goal tonight.

There was little the Russian goalkeeper could have done to prevent the goal as Volland managed to bypass the defence to find himself in a one on one with the keeper just outside the six-yard box.

CSKA remain bottom of Group E following the draw and if Tottenham beat Monaco tonight they will finish the group in bottom place regardless of what happens in the final game.
