Crystal Palace star Jason Puncheon charged with assault and possession of weapon

Crystal Palace star Jason Puncheon was involved in an incident on Sunday morning, leading to him being charged for assault and possession of a weapon, as per BBC Sport.

The 31-year-old was reportedly with friends at a nightclub just before the incident occurred, with police arresting him after they were called to an address in Reigate.

A spokesman later confirmed that it was indeed the Palace player who was arrested, although no further details have since been released as their investigation is likely to be ongoing.

What we do know at this point though is that Puncheon was charged with ‘causing fear or provocation of violence, possession of an offensive weapon and common assault’, as per the report above.

He will reportedly appear in court on January 5, with Palace refusing to comment as they will likely have been told not to say nothing by the authorities until a later date.

Puncheon has made 11 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and with Roy Hodgson’s men starting to show some life in their attempts to avoid a relegation battle, his possible absence between now and the New Year could be an issue.

However, given that he has featured just once in the last 10 league games, being left out of the squad for the last two, he probably won’t be too much of a loss for Hodgson and his men.

If he is considered moving forward, then he will have to ensure that he’s focused in training and on the pitch, otherwise he may well risk being left out with Palace desperately scrapping to maintain their Premier League status.
