Chelsea are reportedly interested in Cagliari starlet Niccolo Barella, but he won’t come cheap as it’s suggested he has a €50m price-tag.
The 21-year-old has continued to impress for the Sardinian outfit, with his energetic and tenacious style of play proving crucial.
Having established himself as a regular for his club, Barella also made his breakthrough for Italy last year, as he appears to have a bright future ahead of him for club and country.
With that in mind, it’s no real surprise that interest is said to be building in acquiring his services, albeit as noted by Sky Sport Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Cagliari value him at €50m and so it’s certainly going to cost any interested party.
Napoli and AC Milan are specifically mentioned as being keen on signing the youngster, although it’s noted that Chelsea have been following the Italian international for weeks and so look primed to potentially make a bid in the summer.
Maurizio Sarri will see Mateo Kovavic’s loan spell from Real Madrid expire at the end of the season while Cesc Fabregas will become a free agent, assuming that he doesn’t secure a transfer away this month with speculation heavily linking him with an imminent move to Monaco, as per Sky Sports.
In turn, the Chelsea boss will surely need midfield reinforcements ahead of next season to complement the likes of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, and Barella has seemingly emerged as a long-term solution.
Time will tell though if they can fend off Milan and Napoli, as perhaps Barella’s desire to either stay in Italy or test himself abroad will be the crucial determining factor in the next move he makes.
