Having successfully completed a club record deal to sign Spaniard Juan Mata it’s clear that the Old Trafford side are keen to make further moves this month and David Moyes’s interest in Croatian international Mandzukic could well have been sparked by the continued injury concerns surrounding Dutchman Robin Van Persie.

Initially it had looked unlikely that Bayern Munich would look to keep hold of Mandzukic until his probable replacement Robert Lewandowski arrives from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, but now it appears the Allianz Arena side could be willing to sanction a sale in the January transfer window.

The 27 year old has been a prolific finisher throughout his 18 months at the Bavarian giants but is seemingly not a player Pep Guardiola values, a point echoed by honorary president Franz Beckenbauer who has stated;

‘Mandzukic could pack his bags,’

‘I don’t think Mandzukic suits Pep Guardiola’s style.’

‘Also – even without him, Guardiola could still count on Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze in attack.’

Mandzukic netted 21 goals in his debut season at Bayern Munich, helping the club to a treble of Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League titles, and thus far this term has scored an impressive 13 goals from 20 starts in all competitions.
