It is claimed his most likely destination is Italian side Lazio.

It is thought that he would cost the newly-qualified Champions League club around £15 million, though that figure is still being negotiated.

Van Persie, now 31, will see his contract with the Old Trafford club expire in the summer of 2016, but United are reportedly keen to get him off their wage bill sooner.

Wages could be the main stumbling block over the deal coming to fruition. Lazio want to pay Van Persie £4 million over four years, while the Dutchman is holding out for £5 million per year.

Van Persie has enjoyed a mixed time in the North West. In his debut season he was considered one of the most unplayable strikers in the league, but since then his form has steadily waned.
