Manchester United face major competition for £10m international wideman & possible January solution

Manchester United must fight off competition from Turkish giants Galatasaray if they are to sign Paris Saint-Germain right-back Gregory van der Wiel.

The Dutch international has lost his place in the PSG first team to Ivorian full back Serge Aurier this season, having previously tussled with the West African for a starting berth last season.

This season, the Dutchman has made just seven starts in the league, compared to Aurier’s 13—with the former Toulouse man—who also won the 2015 Cup of Nations with the Cote d’Ivoire—also scoring twice and contributing an assist.

Shoot noted on Christmas Eve that United were planning a move for the full-back, with the report stating that Louis van Gaal saw his compatriot as an upgrade on Guillermo Varela as a backup option for summer signing Matteo Darmian.

Despite his contract coming to an end this summer, the report perplexingly states that PSG value the player at £10 million.

Reports in Turkey have revealed that United face some considerable competition for the defender, with Sportx acknowledging that domestic heavyweights Galatasaray are also keen on the player.

The report notes that Gala representatives met with the player’s agent Mino Raiola to discuss a possible move.
