United have joined the race for the 19-year-old midfielder after the caught the eye in Serie A this season, performances which have attracted scouts from leading clubs across Europe to the Stadio Adriatico to watch him.

Having only moved to Italy in 2012 after being spotted playing in Colombia, Quintero, who plays as a central midfielder or in a holding role, admits he will turn down interest from United in favour of staying in Serie A at this stage of his career – with Inter Milan his preferred choice if leaving Pescara.

“United? No, I like Inter,” the £8million rated midfielder told Gazzetta dello Sport. “I prefer the Nerazzurri because they have a lot of South Americans at the club. And I’m happy in Italy.

“Saying that, it is clear that I would not turn down other strong teams because I’m ambitious: Manchester, Milan, Juventus. I’ll decide with my family and with my agent.”

United’s quest for midfield options has also seen them linked with a move for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, who is available for £22million due to a release clause in his contract, although they face competition for him from Arsenal and Chelsea.
