Man United will look to bring in West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob as Sir Alex Ferguson seeks to add steel to his midfield.

The Argentine international has been earmarked as an Old Trafford target according to Portuguese source Record following an excellent first season in the English top tier.

The 25 year old former Racing Club de Avellaneda man moved to the Hawthorns in July and has been a rock in the heart of Steve Clarke’s midfield, helping to keep the Baggies up towards the top six or seven all season.

Ferguson feels his side needs an out and out defensive midfield presence, the type of player the Scot hasn’t seen since Owen Hargreaves’s Man United career was decimated by injuries.

Since then the Old Trafford boss has looked to use players who can stick in a tackle when needed but arguably offer more of a combined role with the likes of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Anderson and Paul Scholes all able to get stuck in when needed.

Ferguson has been impressed with the way Yacob has adapted to life in the Premier League and no doubt the tough tackler would jump at the chance of a move to Man United, knowing that such a high profile switch would go a long way to helping him add to his three national team caps.
