Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer bid for Benfica’s Nemanja Matic according to talkSport.

The midfielder been putting a number of impressive performances in for his club this season and has played a key role in Benfica’s surge to the top of the Portuguese league.

Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to have been impressed with the number of goals the player has set up for his team mates and is ready to bring the player to Old Trafford come the summer.

Ferguson is hoping Matic will be persuaded to join United by his team-mate in the Serbian national team, centre back Nemanja Vidic.

Matic previously joined Chelsea in 2009 but failed to make much of an impact at Stamford Bridge.

The player made just two appearances for the club before being sent out on loan to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.

Matic subsequently left the club for Benfica as part of the deal that brought Brazilian centre back David Luiz to Stamford Bridge.

United are keen to bring in midfield reinforcements to the club this summer as they prepare for life without ageing duo Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Benfica are thought to be keen to hold on to Matic but could be forced to sell should they receive a big money offer for the player.
