Old Trafford club ready to make move for Wigan starlet.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to make a summer move for Wigan midfielder James McCarthy according to Goal.com.

The 22 year old is thought to have a bright future in the game and United are keen to ensure that future is spent at Old Trafford.

United are set to send scouts to monitor the player’s progress between now and the end of the season as they prepare for a summer bid.

McCarthy came to the attention of United after the club’s scouting network was sent to monitor the progress of their striker Angelo Henriquez who is currently out on loan at the DW Stadium.

Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly keen to bring in McCarthy as he believes the player would retain a significant sell on value and therefore represents a relatively low risk to the club.

McCarthy signed a new five year deal with Wigan in 2011 but boss Roberto Martinez knows he faces a battle to keep the Republic of Ireland international out of the clutches of the game’s top sides.

McCarthy has become an integral part of Wigan’s team and the club will almost certainly lose the player should they suffer relegation from the Premier League this season.
