Manchester United winger Ashley Young has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed the blow that midfielder Ashley Young will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
The former Aston Villa winger’s time at Old Trafford has been disrupted with continuing injury problems, and although he is not always first choice for Manchester United, he will leave them a little short in the final games of the season.
United should still comfortably wrap up the title, needing only two more wins from their remaining six games to be crowned champions for the 20th time, but Ferguson confirmed the bad news to MUTV.
“Ashley is out for the season. It’s unfortunate and it’s a bad blow.
“We thought it’d be maybe two or three weeks but now he’s been down to the specialist and that’s why you saw him at the game on Wednesday.
“We took him down to a specialist in London and the prognosis was not very good at all. We’re going to lose him for the rest of the season.”
This may lead to speculation that Young has played his final game for the club, as he has not managed to find his best form since joining the club for a fee of around £15million in 2011.
The Red Devils will now look to wingers Nani and Antonio Valencia to ensure the title is sealed, although both have also had relatively poor campaigns.
