England striker wants new deal to remain at Old Trafford.
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has demanded a new deal if he is to stay at Old Trafford according to The Mirror.
The England striker wants United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to prove he thinks Rooney still has a future at the club by offering him a new contract.
Rooney’s future has been under constant speculation in recent months after the player was dropped for United’s crucial Champions League last sixteen tie against Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Rooney was reported to be fuming at the omission and was ready to consider his future at the club.
That prompted reports linking the player with a host of top European sides including the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Qatari backed French club have been strongly linked with Rooney after a number of the club’s officials publically declared their admiration for the player.
The 27 year old striker has two years remaining on his current deal, which reportedly earns him a figure in the region of £220,000 a week.
But Ferguson insisted last month that talks would only begin ‘when the time comes’ and that could persuade Rooney he is no longer appreciated at Old Trafford.
The striker was also unceremoniously subbed off in United’s game against West Ham recently, despite the club chasing an equalizer, suggesting he is no longer considered to be the talisman he once was.
