Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed that the club’s star midfielder Josip Illcic will be leaving the club this summer if the Sicilians are relegated, Sky Sports reports.

The 25-year-old is reported to be high on the priority list of Chelsea ahead of their summer rebuilding with the likes of Roma and Zenit  St Petersburg also said to be interested.

Palermo have been flip flopping recently over what the Slovenian’s future will be. A proposed agreement with Roma had reportedly been given the go ahead only for the club to then change their minds and claim that he would be staying, even if the club went down to Serie B, however, Zamparini has now been forced to admit that he will be heading for the exit door this summer.

“Josip Ilicic is a player for big clubs so I really doubt that he will stay with us,” he said.

“We will have to talk of course but he has already told me that he will leave if he gets an offer from a big club. And I don’t doubt that he will get one.”

The news will put Chelsea on alert as they are still believed to be interested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
