Principality side keen on Old Trafford star.
Newly promoted Ligue 1 side Monaco have set their sights on Man United striker Wayne Rooney according to the Daily Star.
Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev has placed the 27 year old England international on his rapidly growing summer shopping list and will look to make the most of the fact that the Man United man has made a verbal request to leave the Old Trafford club.
Rooney may well see the appeal of moving to the tax haven, though it’s worth noting that Monaco face a legal battle with the French Football Federation with regards to their inclusion in the top tier, with the club being told to pay as much as £170m to be allowed to continue playing in the French football league system.
The cost cuts and tax hikes that French clubs now have to cover have resulted in a growing ill-feeling towards Monaco, who have far greater purchasing power than anyone else in the league, with the exception of Qatari-backed Paris Saint-Germain.
Rooney is no doubt the target of a number of Europe’s ‘Elite’ and David Moyes faces an uphill battle to retain the services of Man United’s fourth highest goal-scorer of all time.
The fact that the incoming boss has a fractious relationship with Rooney, stemming from the striker’s acrimonious exit from the Goodison Park side back in 2004, will lead many to believe that the Man United star is likely to leave this summer.
This source also claims that Roberto Mancini is being lined up to take over from Claudio Ranieri as boss of the Stade Louis II side.
