The agent of Palermo striker Abel Hernandez claims that there is significant interest in his client from England this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The 22-year-old suffered through a difficult campaign with the Sicilian club as they were relegated from Serie A and he has now been earmarked as one of the many stars of the side who are set to move on.

Fellow Italian side Parma have been credited with an interest, but it is Paolo Di Canio’s Sunderland who are thought to be keeping the closest eye on him as he looks to continue revamping his squad ahead of his first full season in the Northeast.

And the player’s agent, Pablo Betancourt, has admitted that there is significant interest mounting in his client.

“Abel has admirers in Italy, but also in England,” he told Italian website Calciomercato.it.

“But I want to clarify the situation. I have tremendous respect for [Palermo president Maurizio] Zamparini and he will decide the future of the boy.

“Now Abel is busy with his national team in the Confederations Cup and he hopes to play and do well, which could open up other options for him.”

Hernandez managed just 11 appearances last season but failed to find the net at all.
