Old Trafford side plan Benfica raid.
Man United ‘expect’ to complete the £17m signing of Benfica centre-back Ezequiel Garay according to the Daily Express.
The Old Trafford side have been strongly linked with moves to bring in the Argentine international and now appear to be closing in on the former Real Madrid man as David Moyes looks to strengthen his defence.
Garay has been a huge success since moving to Lisbon two years ago but having seen his side fail in the dying stages their pursuit of three major honours the tough tackling defender may well be ready to leave the Estadio da Luz side this summer.
Benfica looked good to win the Primeira Liga title but lost a crucial encounter with FC Porto in the penultimate fixture of the season and the Europa League final to Chelsea as well as an embarrassing domestic cup final defeat to Vitoria Guimaraes, defeats that could well lead to a number of Jorge Jesus’s pondering their futures at the Portuguese giants.
Given Rio Ferdinand’s age and Nemanja Vidic’s injury concerns the pursuit of a new central defender makes a great deal of sense.
