United striker keen to secure move away from Premier League champions.
Manchester United have been rocked by the news that Wayne Rooney is set to hand in a transfer request at the club, according to The Express.
The England striker has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, though the Premier League champions have insisted that he is not for sale.
Rooney is reportedly unhappy at Old Trafford as he feels he is being overlooked in favour of Dutch marksmen Robin Van Persie.
Rooney feels he is in the best form of his life and wants to be at a club where he is considered the first-choice striker.
That could pave the way for a move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho known to be an admirer of the player.
The Portuguese manager has made no secret of his desire to sign Rooney and will be waiting for confirmation the player’s transfer request has been submitted before making a bid.
Moyes is keen to persuade Rooney his future lies at Manchetser United, but could be tempted into letting the forward go and using the money to fund his pursuits of Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas and Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.
Whatever the outcome though, all parties will have to act fast, with the Premier League season starting in less than a fortnight.
