Dark Blues lighten defensive load
Melbourne Victory Defender Matthew Foschini, has been let go, with the youngster wanting more playing opportunities.
The defender, 22, spent five years at Victory progressing through the ranks from Youth player to the Senior squad, the first player at the club to do so.
Coach Ange Postecoglou was quick to praise Foschini for his dedication, speaking to Football Australia he said: ” Matt has been a terrific clubman during his time at Melbourne Victory and a very popular figure amongst the playing group.
From our perspective it was not an easy decision to let him go, but our feeling was that Matt was at a stage where regular first team football was a priority.”
Also speaking to Football Australia, the young Socceroo thanked his former employers: “I’d like to thank everyone at Melbourne Victory for their support and advice over the past few years
. “For me, the Melbourne Victory changeroom has been like a second home and one that I will certainly miss.
“While things didn’t quite work out, the club provided me with the opportunity to realise my boyhood dream of signing a professional contract and that is something I’ll always appreciate.”
Foschini also tweeted his thanks to Victory:
It’s been a great 5 years for me at Melbourne Victory. Would like to thank everyone who I have ever worked with at the football club
