Coveted central defender now set to stay in Gelsenkirchen next season.
In-demand Schalke 04 midfielder Julian Draxler has admitted that he could not sleep while thinking over recent offers from both Manchester City and Real Madrid, according to reports in Bild.
The Germany international is currently one of the most youngsters currently plying their trade on the continent, with the 19-year-old having been tracked by both City and los Blancos during the summer transfer window.
However, despite each European giant submitting a bid with his employers for the youngster’s services, as well as fellow Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, Draxler instead chose to remain in Gelsenkirchen next season.
And the German has revealed just what a tricky choice it was to make, saying that he found it hard to get to sleep while thinking over his decision.
Either way, having recently put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension at the Veltins-Arena, Draxler now looks set to stay with Schalke for the immediate future, which will be of great disappointment to the mega-rich Premier League club who have been chasing the youngster for some time now.
Draxler, who has been capped six times by Germany since making his international debut last year, scoring one goal in the process, is now contracted to Schalke until 2018, with his employers valuing their star man at £20 million.
