Old Trafford side continue to chase Goodison Park powerhouse.
Manchester United are planning to make an £18million offer for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, reports the Sunday Mirror.
Keen to add to their midfield options, United are readying a bid to sign Fellaini from Everton this summer. The Belgian international impressed last season under Moyes at Everton, and he wants to return to the club and bring him to Old Trafford to beef up their fragile midfield.
The Toffees’ club record signing at £15million, Fellaini has only improved as a player, and an offer of £18million is significantly lower than what Everton value him at. With his £23million release clause having expired at the end of last month, Everton manager Roberto Martinez maintains that their star midfielder will not be sold on the cheap this window, and according to the Daily Mail, he is yet to receive any approach since the buyout clause expired.
Having missed out on midfield targets Thiago and Cesc Fabregas, Moyes is frantically trying to bring in at least one midfielder into the club this summer, but will have to go above £24million for Fellaini; otherwise any offer will not be welcomed. United were also looking at Leighton Baines as a potential arrival, but have yet to improve on their £12million offer, which was turned down.
Baines’ arrival would spell the likely exit of Dutch fullback Alex Buttner, who wishes to stay and fight for his place at the club and rival Patrice Evra. Benfica, Besiktas, Anderlecht and Stuttgart are all looking to take the 24-year old on loan as he seeks first team football.
