Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Manchester United have failed in their latest attempts to sign Everton pair Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines according to The Daily Star.

United boss David Moyes is keen to put his own stamp on the team since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season.

He has so far been frustrated in his pursuit of new signings after losing out to Bayern Munich in the race for Thiago Alcantara and seeing Cesc Fabregas opt to remain with Barcelona.

Moyes has reportedly identified central midfielder as the key area for strengthening and was ready to turn to Fellaini.

Moyes knows the Belgian well from their time together at Goodison Park and was hoping to sign the beanpole midfielder alongside his Everton team-mate Leighton Baines.

But the Toffees have no intention of losing two of their best players so close to the end of the transfer window.

The club know they would have little time to find new replacements and would likely have to wait until January before being able to bring in new signings.

Arsenal are thought to be keeping  close eye on the situation as they had also expressed an interest in signing Fellaini earlier in the summer.
