There is no Extra Pressure on Wanderers Says Popovic

Coach denies successful first season will have an adverse affect

Western Sydney Wanderers Coach Tony Popovic says his side will have no added expectations from him for this season, after a victorious debut campaign.

Popovic steered Wanderers to their first Premier Plate last year, but lost in the Grand Final to Central Coast Mariners.

The Coach believes the expectations will be no different from last year.

Speaking to Goal Australia he said: “I don’t think there will be extra pressure on this group internally

“Externally I am sure the pressures will be different and expectations different from the outside.

“But it’s up to us to handle that. I would much rather have that concern; trying to back up something that we’ve done so well and that’s the challenge that we have.”

Preparations for the maiden season at the Parramatta were hectic to say the least, with the team coming together at the very last minute.

This season’s build up has proceeded rather better, with six weeks still to go, Wanderers look in good shape.

Popovic said: “the players are doing well. We still have a long way to go until the start of the season.

“We are just building them up slowly and getting some game time into the players to try and be ready for that first game.”

The Grand Final victors will be the first test for Wanderers on October 12th.
