Englishman had been expected to join the Blues this summer.
Unsettled Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney is now definitely staying put at Old Trafford after deciding not to hand in a transfer request with the Premier League champions amid intense recent interest from top-flight rivals Chelsea, according to reports in the Sun.
The England international has been closely monitored by the west London club all summer long, with the player himself even expressing a desire to leave the north west and sign for the Blues.
However, the Red Devils have been insistent that the 27-year-old was not for sale at any price and would not be allowed to join their arch rivals from Stamford Bridge.
Rooney’s initial reasons for wanting to move to the capital were the claims made by previous United head coach Sir Alex Ferguson at the back end of last season that the striker had handed in a transfer request, although the Englishman has subsequently gone on to completely deny those stories.
Meanwhile, Rooney was also said to be disappointed at United’s failure to open talks with his advisers over a new deal, with the attacker’s current contract with the club running out in June 2015.
But after Rooney was handed his first start for United under new manager David Moyes in Monday night’s goalless draw with Chelsea in the Premier League at Old Trafford, with the player receiving a warm reception from the home fans, the front man has now decided to end his dream of moving to Chelsea to remain at United.
