Check in to Watford vs Doncaster Rovers

Unwanted Manchester United front man Federico Macheda has agreed to join Championship outfit Doncaster Rovers on a one-month loan deal, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The promising Italy Under-21 international was in the directors’ box to watch Doncaster’s goalless draw against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, and is now expected to go straight into head coach Paul Dickov’s match-day squad for their league encounter against Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night.

Macheda, 22, has been at Old Trafford for the past five years now, with the striker signing his first professional contract with the Red Devils on his 17th birthday in August 2008, and it was in that season that the Italian really made a name for himself in the north west.

Despite only making five appearances in total in all competitions in his debut campaign with the Premier League giants, four of which came in the top flight, Macheda still managed to find the back of the net on two occasions, both of which came in the league.

In fact, the forward’s dramatic last-minute winner against Aston Villa at Old Trafford that season went a long way towards helping Sir Alex Ferguson’s side retain their title ahead of arch-rivals Liverpool.

However, the player has barely featured for the club since the end of that campaign, spending unsuccessful loan spells at the likes of Sampdoria, Queens Park Rangers and Stuttgart.
