United ready to spend big on highly-promising left-back.
Manchester United are plotting a £25m bid for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw this January, according to an exclusive report in the Daily Mirror.
The Premier League champions have been keen to replace Patrice Evra with a new player in that position for some time, having chased the likes of Leighton Baines of Everton and Fabio Coentrao of Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, though moves for both players fell through.
Shaw has also been linked as a target, and the 18-year-old’s superb displays for Southampton last season have also seen him attract serious attention from the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham in recent months.
Compared to a young Gareth Bale, Shaw is a highly pacey and skillful attacking full-back, who would fit in nicely into United’s style of play, and could go on to become a star for club and country for many years to come.
Southampton have been adamant that he would not leave for cheap, and it now seems United are willing to pay big money to land the teenager as soon as possible.
Shaw is one of two England youngsters being chased by United this January, as it is also believed the Red Devils will bid for Everton midfield starlet Ross Barkley.
