Man United will apparently finally clinch the signing of long term target Leighton Baines in the January transfer window according to the Daily Mirror.

David Moyes has failed with two previous bids for the 28 year old but an offer of £16m will reportedly be accepted by Everton as the former Toffees boss brings in the England international to replace veteran Patrice Evra to fill the club’s left-back spot.

Evra is expected to return to France and seemingly current back-up option, Alexander Buttner, is not a player Moyes feels can fill the void.

Moyes had previously attempted to bring in Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao on summer transfer window deadline day and Man United will have the added bonus of being able to use Baines in Champions League action and the move could well assist in the Toffees man forcing Ashley Cole out of Roy Hodgson’s England international starting eleven for the 2014 World Cup finals.

Baines is into his seventh season at Everton, having been purchased by Moyes back in July 2007, and is considered one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League.
