The Old Trafford side have apparently taken a fancy to the England Under 21 international, who has been in fine form for the Championship table toppers this term.

The Clarets saw Charlie Austin leave for QPR over the summer but appear to have a ready made replacement in the form of Ings, with the 21 year old having netted 14 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions thus far this season.

Ings has also scored twice in his two England Under 21 appearances to date and may prove a tough player for the Turf Moor side to keep hold of.

This source values the player at £8.5m, which in today’s inflated transfer market may well be a fair price.

David Moyes may well be keen to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson and could be looking to strengthen his youthful options and may feel Ings has what it takes to make a real impact at the club in a year or two.

There could well be a need to bring in a fresh forward option if Mexican international Javier Hernandez grows tired of warming the bench behind first choice starters Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie.
