CaughtOffside understands that whilst the club’s board have backed David Moyes to the hilt in recent weeks they are also considering options should Man United continue to struggle under the former Everton manager.
Having suffered back to back home defeats to Everton and Newcastle United there has been a rise in speculation as to Moyes’s long term Man United future and there is a very real possibility that the club will act swiftly to sack the Scot should results not improve over the next month to six weeks.
Man United sit in ninth place in the table and could find themselves as much as 15 points off top of the table Arsenal just 15 matches into the season.
The club’s board are said to have discussed contingency plans which could entail a short term appointment being brought in if David Moyes were to be sacked mid-way through the current campaign. This has led to talk of bringing Sir Alex Ferguson back in to steady the ship until a long term replacement can be brought in.
There is a sense that as well as an alarming dip in form, and the inability to get the most out of a squad that won the Premier League title last term by an eleven point margin, David Moyes may have begun to lose the dressing room with some sources claiming that he has fell out with some senior members of the Man United playing staff.
Ferguson would presumably be happy to step into the breach though will be hoping that David Moyes isn’t fired by the club given that he himself pushed Man United to appoint the 50 year old Scot to take the helm following his retirement from the post over the summer.
