Andre Villas-Boas has been disappointed by the impact made by summer signings Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela, who have scored just one Premier League goal from open play this season, and is ready to sell experienced White Hart Lane forward Jermain Defoe to make room for a further striking addition.

The White Hart Lane boss wants that addition to come in the form of Man United bit-part player Javier Hernandez, who continues to be little more than a bench warmer.

The 25 year old Mexican is into his fourth season at Old Trafford but has continually played only a supporting role at the Premier League club and has thus far this term made just three Premier League starts.

Chicharito may be tempted by a fresh challenge though one imagines David Moyes would only sell the forward if he were himself bringing in attacking alternatives to replace him.

Hernandez has been a regular goal-scorer since moving to Man United, scoring 54 goals in 130 appearances, of which 52 were coming from the bench.

Ideally Villas-Boas would also like to offload Emmanuel Adebayor but the North London club are struggling to find a buyer willing to meet the Togo international’s obscene wage demands.
