It’s the type of offer that led to Antonio Conte’s masterstroke capture of Italian veteran Andrea Pirlo, with Juventus signing the then AC Milan man on a free transfer at the age of 32 after a decade at the San Siro.

The Italian international has gone on to play a pivotal role in the club’s back to back Serie A title successes and is still going strong.

Vidic has struggled with injuries over the past few seasons and will see his contract at Man United come to an end in the summer and may well feel it’s time for a fresh challenge and the offer of a deal that lasts more than just a season could well tempt the Serbian further.

Conte is clearly not averse to bringing in players at the latter stages of their careers, happy to make the most of such talents to secure short term success which in turn helps in the club’s pursuit of younger talents.

Man United boss David Moyes may be loathed to lose Vidic, who is now into his ninth season at the club.
