The rock solid Benfica star has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for the best part of two years but now David Moyes is set to snap up the 27 year old with the Primeira Liga side now ready to cash-in on the former Real Madrid man.
Garay is said to be on the cusp of agreeing terms with Man United and the deal will cost the Premier League title holders just £8m, which seems an absolute bargain.
The Argentine international is seen as a long term replacement for Rio Ferdinand with the 35 year old being out of contract in the summer.
Indeed Moyes may also need to bring in a long term replacement for Nemanja Vidic, who could also leave Man United in the summer, whilst the Scot may also feel that both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, who can also play at centre-back, are in fact more suited to alternative roles.
Garay moved to Benfica in July 2011 after a stuttering stint at the Bernabeu.
