3. Has no experience with star names
Whilst at Everton, it’s fair to say that they never had a star studded line up – the most popular players they had were Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini.
Fellaini is now with him at United, and he is struggling to adapt into being a cog in a bigger machine, rather than being a big fish in a medium sized pond and Cahill is now winding down his career in the States.
Cahill in particular is a strong point of reference here. When he joined the club he was a hotly tipped youngster coming up from Millwall, he was on the verge of being a great player already, but was given the freedom to grow and somehow they managed to keep hold of him all throughout his peak. At United, he has tried to go for the quick fix, which has, and will continue to fail.
