The 25 year old has been used sparingly by Jose Mourinho this season and it is perhaps plausible that the Stamford Bridge club would consider offloading the Spanish international though many would be shocked if a move to Man United was sanctioned.
Atletico Madrid and PSG are thought to also be tracking Mata with Chelsea wanting at least £20m for the former Valencia man, who finished as the club’s Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons.
Mata has started 11 of Chelsea’s 22 Premier League fixtures though hasn’t seen a minute of action since he vented his frustrations following his substitution against Southampton on New Year’s Day.
Whereas Mata sees the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian barring his progress to the Chelsea starting eleven he would have a free run at a regular spot in David Moyes’s first team set-up, such is the lack of creative invention at the club.
The likes of Ashley Young, Nani, Shinji Kagawa and Luis Antonio Valencia have failed to impress in the final third though luckily both starlet Adnan Januzaj and Wayne Rooney have put in consistent displays this seasons.
