Man United have reportedly ‘provisionally agreed’ a deal to sign Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata according to the Daily Mirror.

The Old Trafford side have apparently agreed a £40m fee for the 25 year old Spaniard though no formal bid has actually been made for the Blues star.

Mata has been frozen out of Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven since he angrily reacted to being subbed against Southampton on New Year’s Day, and has started just half of the West London club’s 22 Premier League fixtures, and a move away from Stamford Bridge does look inevitable it is perhaps still surprising that Chelsea would agree to sell the attacking midfielder to a Premier League side.

David Moyes has been given ample funds to invest in his faltering squad this month and will apparently follow up the prospective capture of Mata with moves to bring in Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye and Bayern Munich centre-back Dante.

One imagines that Moyes is happy to offload some of his under-performing stars to make way for new additions with the likes of Nani, Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa perhaps likely to follow Brazilian Anderson to a Man United exit, the midfielder having completed an initial loan move to Fiorentina earlier this month.

David Moyes is also scouting Borussia Monchengladbach winger Patrick Herrmann.

In 135 appearances for Chelsea Mata has racked up 33 goals and an astonishing 58 assists, playing a pivotal role in the club’s Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup successes whilst also winning the Blues Player of the Year award in both his opening two seasons following his move from Valencia back in August 2011.
