Unsettled Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney will not sign a new contract with the Premier League champions, even if Red Devils head coach David Moyes is able to sign Chelsea wide man Juan Mata during the January transfer window, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The England international now has just 18 months left to run on his current deal at Old Trafford, meaning that the player can now leave the north west on a lucrative free transfer in June 2015.

And according to sources close to Rooney, the Englishman will not agree to put pen to paper on the new bumper deal that his employers currently have waiting for him on the table until he sees exactly what standard of players that new United head coach David Moyes is able to attract to the Theatre of Dreams at the end of the campaign.

However, even if the Scot is able to pull off a club-record £37m deal for the Blues’ playmaker before the current January transfer window slams shut for business for the season once again at the end of the month, it will still not be enough to persuade the attacker to remain at the club.
