The Mexican international had been linked with a move to the principality club during the January transfer window after an unexpected injury to star man Radamel Falcao ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
However, they decided on a cut priced move for Fulham’s Dimitar Berbatov instead, offering him a short term deal to step into the Colombian’s boots.
But they are still said to be keen on landing his signature after the World Cup this summer as they look to make an improved challenge to Paris Saint Germain’s Ligue 1 dominance next season.
Hernandez has struggled for game time in the Northwest this season, amassing just six Premier League starts, and he has made his desire to play on a more regular basis known to David Moyes.
The manager has seemingly been left unimpressed by his two goals and two assists in those six starts and continues to play Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie ahead of him.
