The Mexican international had been linked with a move to the principality club during the January transfer window after an unexpected injury to star man Radamel Falcao ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
However, they decided on a cut priced move for Fulham’s Dimitar Berbatov instead, offering him a short term deal to step into the Colombian’s boots.
But they are still said to be keen on landing his signature after the World Cup this summer as they look to make an improved challenge to Paris Saint Germain’s Ligue 1 dominance next season.
