Man United are set to make a move for Borussia Dortmund battler Ilkay Gundogan in the knowledge that Barcelona, who are also said to be keen on the German international, have been hit by a transfer ban.

Football Direct News claims that David Moyes will make a move for the Westfalenstadion star, who has been out all season with a back injury, as the Scot looks to freshen up his midfield.

Gundogan played a pivotal role in his sides run to the Champions League final last season but Jurgen Klopp has been unable to call upon the 23 year old and Borussia Dortmund may well once again see one of their star performers picked off.

Star striker Robert Lewandowski has already agreed a move to Bayern Munich and with Dortmund falling so far behind their domestic rivals there must be a fear that others will follow the Pole to the exit.

Gundogan has just over a year to run on his current contract and hopes to be back to full fitness in time for the 2014 World Cup finals, though one wonders if Joachim Low would select a player who is so short of action over the past 12 months.

Moyes may well see Gundogan as an ideal player to fill a holding role that Marouane Fellaini has struggled to adapt to.
